What spray foam can do to timbers
Warm, moist air from your home rises into the loft and condenses on the cold roof structure, and the foam leaves the water nowhere to go.
If water gets in under the tiles, the foam, especially open-cell, can soak it up like a sponge and hold it against the rafters.
Over months and years, that damp becomes a breeding ground for wood rot and fungal attack, and because the foam hides the timber, you often won't know until significant structural damage has occurred.

Why treatment is part of the job
Lenders' main worry about spray foam is interstitial condensation: moisture trapped against the wood, causing rot.
Some removal quotes cover little more than scraping the foam off. If the wood underneath is damp and the foam is simply taken away, the timber stays vulnerable.
What we do once the foam is off
- Clean the timbers and inspect the condition of the wood underneath
- Treat the exposed timbers, so they stay healthy, breathable and durable
- Record them in a full timber inspection, with photos and notes
- Check the deck, battens, fixings and ventilation
- Tell you before we start if the felt beneath the foam is in trouble
- Reinstate the roof's ventilation
Where it fits in a removal
Free survey
We inspect the foam type and the condition of the underlying timbers.
Careful removal
Our team uses specialist tools to remove the foam without damaging your roof structure.
Clean, inspect, treat
We clean the timbers, inspect the wood underneath, record it with photos and notes, and treat it.
Your certificate
We package your photos and completion report, with the completion certificate, for your surveyor and lender.
If we find damage
If we catch it early, we remove the foam, treat the wood, and your roof is healthy again.
Left too long, the rot can spread, and the roof's structure can become unstable.
Under the framework the Property Care Association is setting for spray foam removal contractors, as we understand it, where the membrane has failed the contractor will be expected to say so in writing, and in a proportion of cases the honest recommendation will be a full re-roof rather than a cosmetic repair.
Why roofers turn down foamed roofs
Many roofers refuse to work on a roof covered in spray foam, because the foam sticks to the underside of the tiles and the felt like glue: a broken tile cannot simply be slid out and replaced.
What should be a £200 repair often turns into a complete re-roof costing thousands. Our guide explains why you cannot fix a leaking roof with spray foam in place.

What our customers say
Rated 5 out of 5
Christopher and his team, were punctual and worked diligently all day, removing foam from the roof for four days. Tidying up every day before they left. They were always cheerful, and replaced tiles that were displaced. Reassured me that the timbers were dry, which was my major concern. I would be happy to recommend them. The company provides first class service and certifies that the foam has been removed and safely disposed.

Kristof, David and Marius did an excellent job in removing the closed cell foam that had been in my loft space. I was incredibly nervous about the process and what might happen but they took great care in explaining to me how the process works. They were extremely professional, worked 2 long days in a tight space and cleaned everything up beautifully. They also shared photos of the progress and end result which I am very happy with. Kevin and John also eased any concerns I had from the outset - I would highly recommend Remove to anyone having done lots of research into this!

Your questions answered
Is timber treatment included?
Yes. Every job includes cleaning and treating the exposed timbers to ensure they are healthy, breathable, and durable for the future.
What if the felt under the foam has failed?
We tell you before we start, rather than after we have gone.
Why won't roofers repair a roof covered in spray foam?
Because the foam sticks to the underside of the slate or tiles, and the felt, like a super-strong glue. A broken tile cannot simply be slid out and a new one slid in.
Can I remove spray foam insulation myself?
Attempting to remove spray foam insulation on your own is not advisable. This task demands specific equipment and expertise, as the insulation includes hazardous chemicals. Therefore, it's safer and more effective to entrust this job to trained professionals.
